Visit the National Steinbeck Center

See the exhibit of the life and work of John Steinbeck who was born in Salinas in 1902 and passed in 1968. He was a prolific author, and winner of the 1962 Nobel Prize in Literature. Most of his work was set in the Salinas Valley and the California Coastal Range and he explored the themes of fate and injustice, especially of the downtrodden.

He is most widely known for Tortilla Flat (1935), Of Mice and Men (1937), Red Pony (1937), The Grapes of Wrath (1939), Cannery Row (1945), East of Eden (1952) and Travels with Charley (1962).
