Think local + Buy local = Be a Localist!

Our locally owned restaurants, shops and businesses need us. Find local merchants in the Eco831 Eco-Marketplace, many are GREEN CERTIFIED.
Be a true “local” and support local businesses–If we don’t, they might will go away.

There are lots of reasons to be a Localist, here are just 10…

1. Keep your money local
Supporting local businesses keeps more of your money in the community–it’s used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers, and farms.

2. Support community groups
Non-profit organizations receive an average of 250% more support from small, local business than from chain stores.

3. Keep our community unique
One-of-a-kind businesses give us distinctive character.

4. Reduce environmental impact
Local businesses buy locally, requiring less transportation, less sprawl and congestion, habitat loss and pollution.

5. Create more good jobs
Local businesses hire local talent.

6. Get better service
Local businesses hire people with a better understanding of the products they offer, and take more time to get to know customers.

7. Invest in community
Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community. They are less likely to leave or abuse resources and are more invested in our community’s future.

8. Put your taxes to good use
Local business require less infrastructure investment compared to national chains, sales taxes are reinvested where they belong, here.

9. Buy what you need
Not what someone else wants you to buy. Local businesses can offer custom, unique products and services.

10. Encourage local prosperity
People are more likely to invest and settle in communities that preserve one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character, keeping the Monterey Bay area unique.
